HTML Media

Multimedia on the web includes sound, music, video, and animation. Modern browsers support common media formats well.

This section covers embedding audio and video, plus the older plugin-based approaches.

Learning path

1. HTML Multimedia — What multimedia is, common video/audio formats
2. HTML Plugins — <object> / <embed> (for context)
3. HTML Audio — Play sound with <audio>
4. HTML Video — Play movies with <video>

Modern practice

Prefer HTML5 <audio> and <video> in new work. Plugins such as Flash are no longer available in mainstream browsers.
